Lymphoma risk following calcineurine inhibitors and tropical
The use of calcineurine inhibitors is thought to be a risk factor in the developing of lymphoma. However, new research found no association between lymphoma and treatment with calcineurine.
A database describes 300 cases of lymphoma. The database consists of 300.00 patients with atopic eczema who are treated with prednisolon, local steroids group 1-4 and calcineurin inhibitors.
In the calculation of the odds ratios of the different treatments there was found no significant risk in the incidence of lymphoma in the group who was treated with calcineurin inhibitors compared with the all the remaining treatments.
The study found that the risk of lymphoma was primarily related to the severity of atopic eczema where a systematic treatment with prednisolon may be required.
