Limited use of potent topical steroids does not affect the h

High-potency topical corticosteroid cream (0.1% fluocinonide) used once a day in two weeks does not appear to affect the hypothalamus in children, new research suggests. However, when applied twice a day suppression of the hypothalamus was seen in children aged 6-17 years. No suppression was seen in the younger age groups.

Suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis has been linked with an increased risk of growth retardation.

126 children between 3 months and 17 years old took part in the study, all with atopic dermatis covering at least 20% of their body surface area.
